Charles Offord served in the Royal Navy in the First World War as a Stoker. He was invalided out of the Navy on 8th October 1919. He was awarded the 'For the King and Empire Services Rendered' badge. This was given to former servicemen to show that they had served in the First World War to stop them being accosted on the streets by women calling them cowards and giving them white feathers.
