Where is the museum located?

The New Zealand Navy Museum is located at historic Torpedo Bay in Devonport, Auckland. Torpedo Bay sits at the base of Maungauika – North Head at the end of King Edward Parade. The museum has an onsite store, cafe and playground.

How can I get to the museum?

Ferry – from the central city – takes approximately 10 minutes. Then a flat 20 minute walk along the waterfront to the museum.

Bus – 807 bus from Devonport Wharf. Bus stop is a flat 3-5 minute walk from the museum.

Car – free parking including disabled parking onsite.

What are your opening hours?

Navy Museum: 10am – 5pm, 7 days a week

Torpedo Bay Cafe: 7am – 4pm, Monday – Saturday. 8am – 4pm Sunday.

How much does it cost to visit the museum?

Admission is free for New Zealand Residents. International Visitors aged 18+ $10 each.

How do I book an education session for my students?

How long will it take to go through the exhibitions?

It depends on how much detail you wish to look at: average 30 minutes – 1 hour.

Are you wheelchair accessible?

Yes the Museum is wheelchair accessible. We have two wheelchairs for public use, available on request.

Can you provide first aid?

Yes, a first aid kit and a defibrillator is available at front of house. Please ask any museum team member for assistance. All museum team members are first aid trained.

Can I eat and drink in the museum?

No, food and drink can not be taken into the main galleries.

Can I park my car at the museum?

Yes, onsite car parking is available for visitors including a dedicated mobility parking space. If you use the mobility space, please display your mobility card.

Where do I go in the museum if I have a query?

Our friendly museum guide hosts are available at all times to answer any questions you may have. Our information desk is located in the front entrance of the museum.

Am I able to take photos and film in the museum?

Photography for non-commercial use without a flash is permitted in the gallery spaces. To enquire about using the museum for commercial filming and or photography please email our communications manager.

Can I smoke in the museum?

Smoking is not permitted in any area of the museum at any time.

Can I book a taxi from the museum?

Our museum guide hosts will be happy to assist you to book a taxi, please speak to them at the front desk located in the main entrance.

Do you have toilets in the museum?

Toilets are located near the front entrance of the museum. Accessible toilets are also available in the museum and are located alongside the Torpedo Bay Café.
