Ko Tainui te waka
I joined the Navy when I was 18, because I thought it would be exciting and full of adventure. I haven’t been let down yet.
Early in my career I went to Antarctica with a team to unload supplies for scientists at McMurdo Sound.
In 1997 I was part of the Navy’s Māori cultural group and performed at Bougainville, in the Pacific. Our haka made a special connection with the people of Bougainville, and helped with peacekeeping work there.
Later on, I became an Officer and now I am a Captain. I have had many roles in the Navy, but I think my most important work is to help others. I want all people to feel safe and included, to grow their talent, and to find ways they can be leaders.
