Linda Jarrett – Tides of Change Artist Statement
Tides of Change investigates the ecological impact of invasive exotic seaweed on New Zealand’s native marine environment. In collaboration with natural elements — seaweed, water from the Pacific Ocean, and sunlight — I engage in a destruction process that mirrors the themes of resilience, transformation, and decay. I forage seaweed and incorporate it into a process of decaying black-and-white Polaroids. This project stands as both a visual and conceptual reminder of the transient, evolving nature of our environment and the urgent need to address the impacts of climate change on biodiversity.
Tides of Changes opens in the museum’s atrium on Saturday 31 May, from 10am.
Meet the artist Saturday 31 May 10am – 2pm.
The exhibition will be available until end of October 2025 – Free Admission. Suitable for all ages.
