Telescope with leather bound body belonging to Lieutenant Bruce. Engraved on the sliding bar are the words: ‘D.F.F. Bruce’. Lieutenant Bruce was the Navigation Officer on the Cable Ship Iris. He served in this vessel throughout World War One and was sent in search of Count Felix Von Luckner after his escape from Motuihe Island in 1918. Lieutenant Bruce later became a Commander in the Royal Navy Reserve and was presented with the Volunteer Reserve Decoration which is also held in the Navy Museum collection.
